Server Requirements

Please review the following requirements before your start the installation. These are the requirements for the server that you will install the program on it or the requirements of the virtual hosting if you will be hosting your web site on a shared server (virtual hosting) with some hosting company.

For operating system and hardware requirements, please see the download page. Please carefully read the requirements for each version before you start installation.

Web Site

A Web Site, hosted either on Unix or on Windows Server. If you will be using the program on the internet, then you will need a computer that is connected to the internet. This is called a Server. You may have your own dedicated server which could cost you, or host your website with any hosting company on a shared server (called virtual hosting). You will need also to register your domain name to point to your web site or you can use your IP address until you register it.

Please be sure to have your server or website FTP address, user name, and password. These are required for connecting to your server using any FTP programs like WS_FTP, Cuteftp, FTP Voyager. If your server is Unix then you should also have login information using a Telnet program. If your server is windows you may have some way to connect to your server, for example using PC Anywhere.

MySQL Connection

A connection to MySQL server. The program is SQL database driven. This means that all the program database is done using SQL server. Everything the program uses is stored in a SQL database, this includes websites information, accounts, users, keywords, mailings lists, banners, categories, stats, etc. MySQL is the popular and robust database engine and the best it is free so any one can use it.

If this is your own server, then make sure you have installed MySQL server if not already installed. You can download MySQL server from www.mysql.com.

If you are hosting your site with some hosting company, or still looking for one, then make sure they support MySQL server and you will have a database on it with your login to your database.

In all cases, please be sure to have these information about your MySQL server:

MySQL host name. For example localhost, www.yourdomain.com.
MySQL database name. This is your database name on the MySQL server.
MySQL database user name. This is the login username to the MySQL database.
MySQL database password. This is the login password to the MySQL database.

MySQL Database

As explained above, you will need a connection to MySQL server and you will need to have a database created on this MySQL server. If this is your dedicated or own server, then you should create this database yourself. If you are hosting your website with any hosting company, then if you have a control panel to admin your site, you may search it for tools to create or manage MySQL databases. If you do not have a control panel to admin your server or it does not have a tools for creating MySQL databases, then you should contact your hosting company to create a database for you and let then send you its information which is the MySQL host, database name, database username, and database password.

SMTP or Mail Program

SMTP mail server or Sendmail program installed. The program sends out emails to the users in many situations. For example for creating accounts, payments, submissions. Therefore you need a connection to an SMTP mail server which is normally called the same as your domain name like mail.yourdomain.com, or Sendmail program installed on your server. If you do not know please ask your server admin or hosting company.

70 MB Minimum Disk Space

This space is required to install the program files only. This does not include any listings or anything in the database. Actual space required depends on the version and operating system. It varies from 20MB to 70MB.

Additional Disk Space

About 20MB disk space for each 5000 listings. This varies too much depending on your configuration of the program and on your usage or the application you are using it.

For example, you have options in the admin center to set the maximum limits for listings title, keywords, descriptions, indexing methods and so on. Based on these settings, the space required may vary too much from few hundreds bytes for each listing to several thousands of kilobytes.
