Catagory listings on home page
Is there a way to not list items of catagories on the home page and still have them on the category link?

Yes edit the classes for the homepage categories and remove the class for the category count.

You need to spend some time browsing the admin to remember where everything is located. All classes are located under your admin ->General classes and private classes links.
