Installation Problem

After following all instructions ie: upload CHMOD etc I am instructed to point my browser to to the "admin.cgi" as follows:\ http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/classified/classified.cgi\ When I do this I get a 500 Server Error.\ If I assume this is a misprint and point to:\ http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/classified/admin.cgi\ I do not get a request for user ID but I do get the admin page. I am then directed by the instruction manual to the "Configuration" section to change paths and urls.\ Upon completion of this page when I click to update I am told this is for Demonstration purpose and changes cannot be made.\ I think I need some help here. Please advise.\ Thanks

Re: Installation Problem

Yes your admin should be at:

http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/classified/admin.cgi

there is no default admin login or password, you set them later in Configuration.

There is no demo shipped for customers, you get this error because the program is not correctly installed. Make sure you set the permissions for the directory data and all its sub folders and files to writables (755, or 777, etc).

Tried 755 & 777

I changed the CHMOD on the entire script cgi & html to 755 and I still got this is a demo page.\ I changed the folders and the 9 .cgi files to 777 and I get 500 server error.\ I changed the .cgi files in the HTML section to 755.\ (I don't know why there would be a .cgi file in the html section.)\ I have uploaded the entire script several times manually for proper ASCI and binary requirements.\ I am sure I am doing something wrong but I cannot find it.\ This is the error I am getting.\ \ Sorry!, Demo, Can't Do it!!\ The Save, Delete, and some other functions are disabled for our server security in the demo.\ \ \ Any other suggestions?

Re: Installation Problem

/cgi-bin/classified/*.cgi, *.pm must set to 755 (Executables)

/cgi-in/classified/data and all its sub folders and files must be writables (may be 777, etc)

Still NO-GO

I deleted everything and reinstalled.\ I reset all of the file permissions.\ I get the same error - Sorry!, Demo, Can't Do it!!\ The Save, Delete, and some other functions are disabled for our server security in the demo.\ \ All cgi. & .pm files are set to 755.\ I tried setting all data files to 777 and I get a 500 error.\ \ I deleted everything again and used the online Auto-Installer.\ It did not set any file permissions which resulted in a 500 Internal server error.\ \ My host is Hostgator and the server is unix. I have other perl scripts that run ok.\ \ I am completely baffled.\ \ Would you have any other suggestions?\ Ron

It's a GO !

I finally got it right. The problem I was having was with the 777 CHMOD in certain areas of the HTML.\ No more permissions problems.\ On to the next one.\ Thanks\ Ron

A New Problem.

Sorry, I thought I was out of your hair.
When I click on the following links:
Affiliates
Place Ad
My Account
Register
Login
I get the following error:
The requested URL /cgi-bin/classified/classified.cgi was not found on this server.
Everything else seems to work ok.
The CHMOD is correct on classified.cgi and also the template files.
I need some help here. I really appreciate it.
Thanks
Ron

Fixed part of the problem

I fixed most of the problem by changing "Use Secure Server to NO".

The only link not working now is Affiliates and I get the following error:
Undefined subroutine &main::Affiliates called at /----/----/public_html/cgi-bin/classified/Classifieds.pm line 196.

Can you help with this?

Re: Installation Problem

The affiliates is a separate module that you can buy, see our order page.
