Major Bidding Glitch

Ahmed,\ \ I noticed a major error in the bidding process that I wanted to bring to your attention. I ran a test auction where me and a friend were bidding against each other and this is what happened:\ \ The auction opening price was set at 250.00, with a reserve price of 275.00. I bid 500.00 and the bid went up to 275.00 and said "reserve met" next to the current price. My friend then bid 400.00, which brought the current price up to 405.00. Then I bid again, but this time I bid 600.00 and the current bid price dropped down to 275.00!!\ \ It still shows me as the high bidder, but the price is all wrong. It should should still show me as the high bidder at 405.00, but instead it says 275.00. Basically, all I did was rebid at a higher price to assure that I would win the auction and the system did not respond the way that it should. \ \ This seems to be a major glitch within the system. Can you please fix this?\ \ \ Thanks

Re: Major Bidding Glitch

I'll reproduce this same senario and see and of course any issues will be done and an update will be released if required. Watch the updates forum next week.

\ \ Hi Ahmed,\ \ Ok, so I tested it out using several different scenarios and it seems to be working great now. However, after placing a bid, I'm now receiving a SQL error message at the bottom of the page:\ \ Content-type: text/html\ \ SQL Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') WHERE ID=1155172627' at line 1\ Query:\ UPDATE Items SET End_Time=(End_Time+) WHERE ID=1155172627\ Line 347, File \ /home/mysite/cgi-bin/auction/Bidding.pm.\ \ \ Can you fix this?\ \ Thanks again.

Re: Major Bidding Glitch

You need to set the auto extend values in the admin center, also updated these files to avoid this error even if not set by default in the admin:

Bidding.pm
BiddingLib.pm

Thanks

\ \ \ Ok, that fixed the SQL problem I was having, however there are still some issues with the bidding:\ \ In the same scenario as I layed out in my first post, the starting bid was set at 250.00 with the reserve set at 275.00. I bid 500.00 and the price went up to 275.00. My friend then bid 400.00 which brought the price up to 405.00. Then I bid 600.00 and the price stayed at 405.00. Then my friend bid 1000.00 which brought the price up to 605.00. Good. However, then he bid again at 1100.00 and the price dropped all the way back down to 275.00. \ \ So the same problem still exists, but in a different way.\ \ Can you please fix this?\ \ Thanks again.

I tried this same senario and can not reproduce this error, all steps went as normal:

\ \ Ahmed,\ \ This is what happened. In the same scenario I just told you about, my friend entered 1100,00 (notice the comma instead of the decimal point). He then got a SQL error message. He clicked "ok", went back, and then tried to bid 1100.00 (using the decimal). Then the bid price goes back down to 275.00.\ \ Granted, this may not happen very often, but people who type fast may accidentally enter a comma instead of a decimal point and thus causing it to bring down the bid price. If people catch on to it, it may be a sneaky way for them to bring down the price of the item and cause problems for the seller.\ \ It seems to be a bug with using the comma. Check it out, you'll see what I'm talking about.\ \ Thanks

Re: Major Bidding Glitch

You did not say this before, so it was not bidding system error, typo. Anyway, toavoid this to happen again I released an update to convert theb id value to numeric before processing, to update, just update the file Bidding.pm from thelatest zip file.
