Searchawy on WinNT4 Server Running IIS4 issue Edit Delete Reply with quote Quote
First Post Posted on: 05-04-10 04:19 PM next post first post
Hello All;

If there is anyone out that that is running the " Searchawy "
Script on IIS4 " Successfully " Could you please let me know if you
ever encountered the following error when clicking on a link in the
Search Engine? ( This is a submitted link that you are doing a search for
In the " search.cgi "

----------------------
Content-type: text/html
Software error:
Can't call method "finish" without a package or object reference at D:/Inetpub/wwwroot/search_one/cgi-bin/dir/sqldriver.pm line 1199.

For help, please send mail to this site's webmaster, giving this error message and the time and date of the error.
----------------------

Here is the code for the line:

}
#==============================================
sub DB_Disconnect{

$sth->finish if($sth); # line that is receiving the error
$dbh->disconnect if($dbh);

}
#==============================================

I tried changing the line to this:
$sth->finish() if (ref $sth);
Which gets rid of the error, but gives me a blank screen.
( This and several other things that I have tried was suggested to me by some Perl Programmers )

I add this right before that line: print "STH is:\"$sth\" ";

And I receive this: STH is:"DBI::st=HASH(0x21b8f38)"

I have even reinstalled Perl into " C:\Perl " Which is was installed
In " D:\Perl " And still nothing?
I have even gone back and used a previous version of Perl.
And still no change??

I have built a brand new Server, And recreated the MySQL Database
For the Search Engine, and still nothing, no change, everything is still the same?

Please if someone out there knows what could be causing this MAJOR ISSUE, please by all means let me know what to do, or what to check?

Thank You in advance.

Since you are building your server at home and it is Windows soit will be very hard for anyone to support you on a server misconfiguration issue.

I recommend you to go to www.apache.org and download apache server and install it and stop the IIS then try installing the software under apache. If it works fine with apache then you know it is a problem with IIS config.

The best solution for your home made server I think is to goto www.plesk.com and download their pesk server administrator for windows it has everything I think including perl and apache
and mysql and you can create and manage domains, work on this better.

I recommend also you get a hosting account with any compatible ISP, install and start your site and work in parallel on your home server, check www.onsmart.com for hosting or search hostreview.com or hostsearch.com.

Other web servers are not in the question.
We have been running IIS for over 6yrs now, with out any problems.
As for apache, we do not like nor care for it.

As for getting a Hosting Company, We are a Hosting company.

We need a solution, not an alternative.

If you are saying that no one that has bought/downloading the
Search Engine has there own servers running IIS4.
Then I am the first.

Help find a solutions, give technical support.
I doubt that I will be the first.

This software is bought with Technical Support.
It is up to your company to find out what the problem is.
So instead of suggestion that "I" "We" install another program.
This should be something that your company needs to do.
This way you can better support your program for companies
Like mine.

We do not do a hosting and we do not support server misconfiguration issues. When I suggested alternatives is to help you get out of your home made hoby server that could have lots of misconfiguration but of course you make up your mind as you like but your server issue is beyond on our support.

OK.

home made hoby server

To begin with, this is not a Hobby, as you so eloquently put it.
This is a Business; we are a company that provides a service to
People, we are not some back mill run play ground that you
Seem to think that we are. We do not speed High Dollar for programs
To play games with.

Since you do not seem to care enough to give the technical support
That a "Company" is suppose to give, we will figure it out on are own.
Since you seem to not care enough to test this out on your own.
If you are the company that you state that you are, you would not
Hesitate to install IIS4 on a Server and test out your own program.
I could understand if you were giving this program away for free,
But you are not; you are charging a High Dollar Price for this
Script, so it is up to you to provide the Technical Support for the
Product that you are selling, those are the rules of running a
E-commerce Business.

I wish you the best of luck with the next person that comes in asking
the same questions as I am, running the same Web Server Software as
we are, with the same issues. Then maybe then, you will finally install
IIS and test you scripts out, and make more money, and make a better
and bigger Cliental.

The idea you refused to send us your FTP information, you said you do not have FTP setup on your server, so basicalley we do not have a way to confirm the installation and upload of the files at least are correct on your server and the control panel to chec the permissions since this is a Windows server. So I think we did our best based on what you say only and NOT what we did or saw, We can not trubleshoot on a server that we can not reach.

Thank you

Mail Sent: Dated: 8/25/2004 3:03 PM

Sent to you, FTP Server Address.
Instructions on how to log on.
UserID
Password.

We did not hear anything back from you.
We had the Temp Account setup for 5-days.
And no one logged onto our servers.

If you would like to see the Log Files
From our mail server, on the day that we sent this out to you.
Please by all means ask. And we will dig in the Logs
And send you the proof that we had sent you our FTP Server
Information.

Yes at the present time we did not have the FTP Server running.
The day after you asked, we installed and sent out the information
to you. So there is either a lack on mail delivery on your
Mail Servers part, or no one opened the e-mail?
But it was sent out of our server.

So trust me on this, we tried and we waited.

What else can a person do, we they do not receive nothing?

You should have contacted me to let me know about the error.
Our ISP has been having problems for the last 2 weeks due to the
Bad weather here in the South-East US "Hurricanes" about like now,
All day long are service has been coming and going,
( Isn't Hurricane weather a pain the butt )

OK...
I just download the " Demo NetEngine "
I installed it, then I created a category.
Then I Spidered about 30 links.
I submitted the links to the engine.
And well.... It works PERFECTLY :-)

So that means that your Demo will Run on " WinNT4 Running IIS4 "

NOW??? Why will the " Open Source " Scripts Run ?
That is the question in now ??

So at the moment we have this?

Demo NetEngine = Does work, Links click-through to there distination

Purchase NetEngine = Will not work, gives error.

So that proves right now, that your script ( As executables ) Will
Run on IIS4 Web Based Windows Server.

Any idea's?
Any Comments ?

As I mentioned to you before?
I was the very first person to install your "NetEngine" on a
WinNT4 Server Running IIS4, several years ago. ( Demo that is )

Come on man, help me out. This has me stumped and several of my
Fellow collegues stumped as well, ( Perl Programmers, I will not share the code with no one, so it is really hard to have anyone to help with this situation )

What do you think?

The demo version is, each .cgi script is compiled with perl itself and all required perl modules. So it is perl that is runing. and it is the same source code you have purchased.

This may leaves the only question, your perl installation only that have the problem. Or may be your DBI and DBD::mysql modules.

So I'd say, uninstall perl mfrom your server completely, download perl 5.8.xx from activestate.com, install it in your c:\ drive, install perl modules DBI and DBD::mysql etc. and try , this should help you out as I hope.

OK. We can do this.

Could you perhaps give me a list of all the "Perl Modes"
That are used for this script?
This way I can thuroughly go through "install each and every mode"
that is not all ready installed in 5.8, until it starts working?

Thank You

Maybe the is a good thing?
go.cgi

Software Error
Can't locate maillib.pm in @INC (@INC contains: C:/Perl/lib C:/Perl/site/lib .) at D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\search\cgi-bin\dir\go.cgi line 20.

Did it. unzipped and replaced all files in the "dir\" and still error exist?
All permissions are set properly, so that is not an issue?

About the modes, are there any other modes that I might need to install?
As right now the only ones that I have installed are DBI & DBD::MySQL

I just got: ActiveState Komodo
And am using it to run through the scripts to see if it finds anything
That might be of some use.
And this came up on go.cgi when I Debugged it:

[Sat Sep 11 05:33:59 2004] go.cgi: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'AND IP='' LIMIT 1' at line 1 at D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\search\cgi-bin\dir\go.cgi line 129.

Could you tell me what this means? Or how to correct it? Of it needs to be corrected?
Not sure what else it will come up with once this error is gone, but will either send to you the error or post here. Just let me know?[/code]

Modes:

Meaning, is there any other modes that make the program function fully?
I already know about the modes for the "Signup" And "Manage Account"
Just need to know if there are other modes for the main end-user functioning part of it?

The above error is normal because you called the script directely without passing the required parameters for it which includes the ID of the link and IP, so this is not an error in the script.

As for the rerqured modules, run the latest testserver.cgi, download it from our site, the installer page.

? Awfully strange ?

Well, I did the following this afternoon/evening.

I deleted out "Perl"
I deleted out "MySQL-Database (For NetEngine)"
I deleted out "NetEngine" Folder on server. ( Backing up database, and templates, and startup.ini "

OK.
Reinstalled "Perl" And the Mod's that are needed. ( Except a few )
Reinstalled "NetEngine" And recreated the Tables for the Database.
Then brought in my Backup Tables that I made.
Then I tried to click on a Search Link......
Wa-La Same Error maillib.pm was missing somewhere.
Even though it is in the same folder?

So......... I went into go.cgi and did this

#use Maillib

And the strangest thing happened?
The Search Engine link work now. When clicked on, they
Actually work? So I do not know what the deal is, but there
Is something wrong with the "Maillib" file?
( By the way, I unzipped and took the files over )

So that is what is going on right now.

The maillib.pm file uses this perl module (non standard):

Net::SMTP

so you should install this perl module as usual using ppm

ppm>install Net::SMTP

and try again. the maillib is required when accounts balance reachs zero it go.cgi will send email to the user telling him his account balance is zero and the sufer will get error if the maillib is not Uncommented.

Well finally got all Modules installed into: Perl
And am able to access the "New Member & Login" Area.
( That is so nice to see )
So I went into go.cgi
And enabled: maillib

And Then I tried to open a search link, And I get the same error

Can't locate maillib.pm in @INC (@INC contains: C:/Perl/lib C:/Perl/site/lib .) at G:\Inetpub\wwwroot\search\cgi-bin\dir\go.cgi line 16.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at D:\Inetpub\wwwroot\search\cgi-bin\dir\go.cgi line 16.

What would be causing this?
I mean everything else works perfectly.
I even took the " maillib.pm & go.cgi " from the distribution package that
I download yesterday, and over-wrote to 2 files, thinking that maybe there
was something messed up in one of the files? But nothing?
So as for the time being, I am going to "comment-out" the Maillib
Again, in go.cgi so that I can finish working on the engine/site without
Having to worry about that error.

Before Commenting Out the "Maillib" I created a new account, and received the Confirmation e-mail, and then Activated the new account, and everything went smooth on that part.
So what I can tell, the "Maillib" is functioning properly.
There is just something wrong with the "go.cgi" comunicating with the Maillib?

The above error says that the error at line 16, the statment use maillib; at line 83, so do not put the use mailib; at the very top, put it at line 83:

use configuration;
use startup;
use maillib;

where it is originally located, that's becase we push the current directory for perl to search before we call the use statment.
