My auction site is hosted on onsmart. \ \ My database has around 28,000 categories.\ \ I have been have a problem with database hangup when posting auctions and during gategory count update. During database query the database becomes locked. Onsmart says this is because my mewsoft script does not have indexing. The follow is a transript between onsmart and myself. My question is can you fix this problem?\ \ Smita: yes\ Smita: you can ask the operator to check mysql processes and check if the table or the query is locked\ Smita: for your domain\ bob: Ok Thanks\ Smita: just ask them to kill the processes of locked table then i will \ Smita: I mean it will start working properly\ Smita: Is there anything else I can help you with?\ bob: No Thank you BOB\ \ \ Please wait for a site operator to respond.\ You are now chatting with 'Smita'\ Smita: Welcome to OnSmart Network chat support! How may I help you today? \ bob: Now getting timeouts when posting auctions. The last time this happened I asked Peter to make note somewhere how he fixed it. \ Smita: when have you contacted Peter ?\ bob: Sometime last week it happened, when he was on duty. All he said was he had to reset something on the server.\ bob: Please check error log.\ Smita: Please hold while I check on it..\ bob: okay thanks\ Smita: See BOB I could again see the locked tables\ Smita: this is result of mysql processes\ Smita: | 1577 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Sorting result | SELECT Cat_ID FROM Auction_Categories WHERE Parent=23121 ORDER BY Sort ASC |\ Smita: | 1703 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Locked | UPDATE Auction_Categories SET Count = 0, Sub_Count = 0 WHERE Cat_ID=23703 |\ Smita: | 1804 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Sorting result | SELECT Cat_ID FROM Auction_Categories WHERE Parent=23121 ORDER BY Sort ASC |\ Smita: | 3192 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Sorting result | SELECT Cat_ID FROM Auction_Categories WHERE Parent=23121 ORDER BY Sort ASC |\ Smita: | 4612 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Locked | SELECT Cat_ID FROM Auction_Categories WHERE Parent=23122 ORDER BY Sort ASC |\ Smita: | 4779 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Locked | UPDATE Auction_Categories SET Count = 0, Sub_Count = 0 WHERE Cat_ID=3886 |\ Smita: | 4845 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Locked | SELECT Cat_ID FROM Auction_Categories WHERE Parent=23121 ORDER BY Sort ASC |\ Smita: | 5533 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Locked | SELECT Cat_ID FROM Auction_Categories WHERE Parent=23122 ORDER BY Sort ASC |\ Smita: | 6356 | bhlaserj_auction | localhost | bhlaserj_auction | Query | 0 | Locked | UPDATE Auction_Categories SET Count = 0, Sub_Count = 0 WHERE Cat_ID=12133 \ Smita: your script is not able to run the query on the table\ Smita: and your auction.cgi is putting load on the server\ Smita: its hangging mysql processes on the server\ Smita: you must put some indexing on your tables\ bob: What does that mean? it's been working fine all day untill now. Is this something I need to tell my software provider to do? \ Smita: yes, please ask them to check the mysql database and table\ Smita: ask them to put some indexing on it so that sorting , updating can be done fast \ Smita: ask them to optimize the tables\ Smita: so that queries will be executed fast\ bob: Okay, I'll see what I can find out. Will Cpanel optimize for now?\ Smita: Cpanel is working fine currently\ bob: What I meant was, there is an option in Cpanel that says fix tables or optimize tables, do you think that will help?\ Smita: ok I will give a try Bob, let see if that works smile\ Smita: I tried to repair your databaes\ bob: Ok I'll take it from here Thanks"\ \ Mewsoft how do I fix this problem? My site is down and customers are complaining.\ \ Thanks\ BOB

This is totally Server issue, if the sql database is corrupted for any reason, you can backup your database from admin->database & sql manager, then delete the database then reload the tables. Be very carefull doing this so, also ask them to restart their server etc.
